duplicate values for field

Hi, I have an issue with people putting in duplicate EAN numbers into the Aux2 field in JIWA.
I would like to make that field so only unique EANs can be entered, but only if there is a value being entered. This is because many inventory items do not have an EAN. So it must allow for blank, but if a value is entered, it cannot be a duplicate. If a duplicate value is entered, it needs to come up with an alert of some sort.
Is there any setting or feature that can do this?

There's no setting or feature however a plugin should sort it out without too much hassle.
